Welcome Back!

Welcome to Grade 5! 

School begins Tuesday, September 6 at 8:45 am. It is an early dismissal day. School ends at 12:15 pm. From Wednesday, school will be at the normal time of 8:45 am to 2:45 pm. 

On Tuesday, students who ordered an EduPac will bring them home. Please make sure the student's name is on all the item in case the are misplaced or lost. Please also check to make sure everything that should be in the EduPac is in there. If any items are missing, you can contact EduPac and they will ship the missing items to the school. The list is below for anyone who didn't order.

 
Please be aware that P.E. Days are Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Students need to have their full gym strip on those days. 

The School newsletter has the school dress code in it. Students are required to the correct uniform every day.

Welcome to our last full week.

Talent Show auditions will take place tomorrow. Students who have signed up already should be prepared with all necessary costumes, equipment, etc.

The Talent Show will take place Friday from 1:00pm in the church basement. All parents are welcome to attend.

Our Good Shepherd Celebration and Potluck will take place this Wednesday at 12:30 pm. Thank you to everyone who signed up. If you have yet to sign up, please come and see me or email me.
Students do not need a lunch that day because of the Potluck. All parents are welcome to attend. 

Our Spelling this week will be a year in review. 50 words. All words that they have done before. No sentences and no homework. The test will be Friday as usual.

Novena

The St. Anthony of Padua Novena is tomorrow. If the children are coming, please have them arrive by 6:15 pm.

Scholastic orders are due tomorrow. This will be our last order of the year. 

If you have not had a chance to sign up for our Good Shepherd Celebration, please email Mrs. Scully as soon as possible.

All Library books should have been returned. Any books not returned will have to be paid for.

All students should still be wearing their proper uniform. This includes shoes as well.

Good Shepherd Celebration

Our Good Shepherd Celebration will be on Wednesday, June 22nd.  We will start around 12:30 pm. We will have a special prayer service first and then afterwards we will all eat lunch together. We are all looking forward to this event. Thank you to everyone who has already volunteered to bring food in for our potluck. If you haven't, please mail Mrs. Scully to sign up. All parents and grandparents are invited and I hope that you can all come!  Brothers and Sisters are also welcome to come if they are accompanied by an adult.
 

Birthdays in June

Ms. Sekiya is now collecting all library books. Please bring them back as soon as possible.

There will be a Math test Thursday. It will include days of the week, months of the year, dates, but mainly addition and subtraction to 100.

Sports Day

This Friday is Sports Day. Students should wear athletic clothes in the colours of their team. Blue, Gold(yellow), Red or Green. Dismissal will be early at 12:15pm on that day.

Next Monday is a Pro-D Day. No school for students.

The Spelling test will be on Thursday this week because of Sports Day.

Friday is Dress Up Day. Students can dress up as their favourite cartoon character. If they dress up, the school is asking for a donation of $1 or $2. This week it will go to help those from Ft. McMurray.

Next Monday, May 30th is Cayla's birthday. We will be having a pizza lunch thanks to Cayla and her family. Students will still need a snack for snack time though.

Next Friday, June 3rd is Sports Day. It will be a fun day for all students. Students should wear clothes for P.E. but related to their team colour. More information will be given to students in the next week. It will be early dismissal at 12:15pm that day.

First Communion

Congratulations to all the children who received their First Communion last Saturday. It was a great day.
We will be making a First Communion bulletin board to share with the school. If you could send me some pictures of the students with family/friends at First Communion, that would be great. I will print them out and put them up on our bulletin board.

First Communion

We have our First Communion Rehearsal tomorrow (Tuesday) at 5:30 pm in the Church.
The photographers will be there so the children should be wearing their First Communion clothes. 

First Communion is this Saturday at 5:00pm. There will be reserved seating up front for the candidates and their families. As this is a regular weekend Mass, it will probably get crowded. 

Wednesday, the school is having their annual Mother's Day Mass. All mothers are welcome to attend. It begins at 9:15am in the church.

Tuesday is our Field trip to the Aquarium. The bus will be leaving no later than 9:00am so you don't want to be late. We will eat lunch at the Aquarium. Students need to bring a lunch that can be thrown in the garbage/recycled after eating. Paper bags, etc. We don't want the children having to carry a lunchbox/thermos around with them all day. 

First Communion rehearsal is coming soon. Tuesday, May 10th. 5:30pm in the Church. Reminder that we will take the group photo on that day so children should wear their First Communion clothes for the rehearsal as well. 

Field trip to the Aquarium

We did the lottery for parent volunteers in our class. The parents selected were:

That is all the room we have on the bus. If you still want to come, you are welcome to meet us at the Aquarium, although you will have to pay your own entrance fee unfortunately. 

This Friday, April 29th is a Pro-D Day. No school for students. 

Thursday, April 28th is Jeans Day. Students can wear jeans on that day. Casual top as well. If they dress up,please bring in a loonie or toonie for charity.

Thank you to everyone for their permission forms for our field trip. We had many parents willing to volunteer. Unfortunately, I've been informed that we can only take 3 with us on the bus. I will hold a lottery and select 3 from all the volunteers. If you are not selected, you are still able to come, but you would have to drive to the aquarium and pay your own admission. 

With the short week, the Spelling test will be on Thursday.

Week of April 18th to 22nd

Our First Communion is coming up in one month (May 14th). As you know, there is a small reception afterward in the church basement. The school is asking for $15 for students who will be receiving their First Communion. The cost goes to cover drinks, snacks, cake and plates, utensils, etc. We would appreciate if it could be handed in no later than next week (April 25th).

This Friday, April 22nd is Fine Arts day. It will begin at 10:00am. The performances will go in order. Starting from K, 1, 2 etc. We will be fairly early. 

April 11th

Money in the Bag is tomorrow (Monday).If you are donating clothes, please bring them in the morning. Thanks.

No Mass this Wednesday as the church will be getting ready for Grade 7 Confirmation.

Fine Arts Day is coming up Friday, April 22nd. It will take place at the Scottish Cultural Centre. I believe it will begin around 10am, but I will try to confirm that date. The Grade Two's will be performing their Poem from Speech Arts. Primary choir will also be performing. We have many students in the primary choir. I hope many of you are able to join us.

We have gym sense every day this week. Students need to wear gym strip every day.

Scholastic is due this Friday, April 1st.

Friday is another Dress Up Day. Backwards Day.

Seekers Social takes place this Friday for those of you who are going.

Holy Week

Tomorrow is Class Photo Day. Please have students wear complete uniform.

Thursday is early dismissal. School ends at 12:15pm. As we are doing Holy Thursday activities, students do not need to wear their gym strip. 

Good Friday and Easter Monday are, of course, days of no school. 

When we come back, from Tuesday March 29 to Friday, April 1st we will have gym sense. Students should wear their gym strip everyday next week.

Congratulations to all the students on their Speech Arts performance. They worked hard on it, both at school and home. They had their best performance today and earned a ``Gold`` certificate. 

Last Week before Spring Break

Our class will be traveling to St. Francis Xavier school on Wednesday. We will leave around 11:30 am. There is a chance that hot lunch will not be ready before we leave. We will be eating earlier, around 11:00 to 11:15 am. Students with hot lunch may want to bring extra in case there is no time for hot lunch. If you have not returned permission forms, please do so as soon as possible. Students without permission forms will have to stay at our school. It seems our class will be performing starting from 1:30 to anytime until it ends around 2:45 pm.

We will take a snack to the Speech Arts. Please have a snack in a bag(ziplock/brown bag) with your child's name on it. A snack that can be thrown in the garbage or recycled after they finish. Nothing that needs to be brought back home.

Friday is a full day. It is a dress up day as well. It is Fancy, Funny Fashion. Students can dress up fancy or fun/wacky/casual.

Report Cards go home on Friday as well. 

Scholastic Orders are due tomorrow (Wednesday).

Tennis

Tennis begins this week and is every day. Students will need to wear this PE strip every day this week. 

Our class will be traveling to St. Francis Xavier School on Wednesday, March 2nd to participate in the regional Speech Arts. Parents are welcome to attend. We should be performing from 12:30. Some time during the afternoon.
Please return permission slips as soon as possible.

Reminder about the First Communion meeting this Tuesday, February 23rd. It will begin at 6:15pm in the Grade 2 classroom. It will be similar to the last one only focused on First Communion. It is for parents so children do not need to come. If you cannot find a sitter, there will be somewhere for the children to stay during the meeting. 

We will have a Math test for Unit 3 on Wednesday. 
Addition and Subtraction to 18.
There will be word problems, questions related to strategies such as Make 10, doubles and near doubles. Equals or Not Equals. Also is a number even or odd up to 100. 

Full Week

We are finally back to a full week of school. It will be pretty busy.

Monday is a dress up day. Valentine's colours. Children can wear a pink shirt or red or purple or white. They can wear any pants they wish. If they dress up, the school is asking for a donation of $1 or 2 for charity.

Tuesday is First Confession for the students who will receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist this year. If you are unable to attend, please contact Fr. Justin to arrange another time for Reconciliation. 
We will meet in the church at 5:30. If possible, we would like students to wear their uniform. 

Wednesday is the school Speech Arts. Classes poems will be performed between 9 and 10am on Wednesday. Individual for primary will be right after recess at 10:30am. 

Friday is the 100th Day of school. I've told the students that they can bring in 100 objects on that day. The objects should be in a jar or bag etc (such as 100 jellybeans or buttons or cards etc). It should be exactly 100. They do not have to do this, only if they want to have some fun. 

St. Anthony's is having its annual Seekers Social in April. I know the school sent out an email about it, Hopefully everyone saw that mail. The school is asking for a $5 donation that will go towards a class gift (Our grade 2 class this year will prepare a movie basket). The gifts are then auctioned off with the money going to support our school. If you have not yet done so, please send in the $5 soon as we can then start making our movie basket. Thank you. 

Spelling and Math are back this week.

Student Led Conference

I hope every one had a great long weekend. 

We have a busy next few weeks.

This Wednesday, the school will have Mass at 1:10 for Ash Wednesday. All parents are welcome as usual. No Mass in the morning on that day.

Friday, February 12th is the Student Led Conference. The forms with your time will go home tomorrow. Please check your child's bag. There is no school on that day, but your child has to come to the conference with you. 

Next Monday, February 15th is Pink shirt Dress Up day. Please bring in a loonie or toonie for charity. Students can dress up in a pink shirt for Valentine's Day/Anti-bullying. They do not have to wear their uniform with a pink shirt. Regular clothes are fine.

Tuesday, February 16 is First Confession. Reminder that the time was changed to 5:30pm in the church. 

Short Week

We have a short week. No school Thursday and Friday for students because of the FISA conference. 
There will be no homework this week as we will not have our Spelling test since the week is too short.

Next Monday, February 8th is Family Day. No school.

Scholastic Orders are due this Wednesday.

We are celebrating Julia's birthday this Wednesday (3rd). She is bringing in pizza for the class so students do not need a big lunch on that day. 

Student Led Conference forms are due tomorrow. Times will be handed out when we return on Tuesday. If you really need to know your time, please email me and I can let you know after Wednesday. 

Week of January 25th

Tomorrow is the last chance to hand in hot lunch orders for the $4.25 price.

Speech Arts poem for our Grade Two class went home last week. Students should be practicing the poem every day at home and at school.

There are 3 categories for individual Speech Arts this year in Primary.
Primary Bible Reading (2 students)
Poetry (3 students)
Prose Recitation (3 students)

If anyone is going to sign up for these individual categories, please let me know by no later than Monday, February 1st.

If you have not returned your Student Led Conference form, please do so by the end of this week.

This Friday is Dress up Day. Sporty or Comfortable clothes day. More information will be relayed later this week.

Reminder that next week, Thursday and Friday - February 4th and 5th are the FISA conferences for teachers. No school for students on those days.

Student Led Conference

The sign up sheets for Student Led Conference went home today. It goes home with the oldest sibling in the school. 

A few notes about Student Led as it's pretty different than the Parent-Teacher conference we had in October. The student is in charge so your child has to be present. 

I will try to honour time requests as best as I can, but might not be able to give a specific time. Every block is 30 minutes and there will about 4 families in during that time.

We cannot schedule them on a different day as the classroom is set up for that day.

If a form is not returned, I will give you a time. 

Week of January 19th

Reminder about the Reconciliation meeting tomorrow, January 19th. It will take place at 6:15pm in the Gr. 2 classroom. It is for all those who have children going through the sacraments this year. 
It is a meeting for parents so children do not have to attend. If you are unable to have someone look after your child, then it's OK for them to come and read a book or something quietly.

Tomorrow is also our pizza party. Students will still need a snack at recess. 

First Communion

It's come to my attention that a few different dates have been sent home about Reconciliation and First Communion. These are the correct dates, confirmed by Fr. Justin:

Tuesday, May 10th at 5:30pm - First Communion Rehearsal (Church)

Saturday, May 14th at 5:00pm - First Communion (Church)

This Friday, January 15th is Pyjamas Day at the school. Students can wear pyjamas all day. Please bring a loonie or toonie for charity if your child chooses to dress up. They will need to make sure that they have boots/shoes/jackets etc to go outside on that day. They do not need to worry about P.E. as long as their pyjamas are OK with moving and running. They should have their P.E. shoes at school every day.

Scholastic orders are due Friday, January 15th as well.

Next Monday, January 18th is a Pro-D Day. No school for students. 

When we come back, it will be Pizza Day (Tuesday 19th). Although students might not need a lunch, they might want a drink/healthy side to go with their pizza. We will have pepperoni/hawaiian/and cheese.

I hope everyone had a restful and wonderful Christmas and New Years. 
Thank you to everyone for all your wonderful gifts and cards. 

Our first week back is pretty normal. Homework and Spelling words went home today. P.E. on regular days (Monday, Thursday, Friday). 

Reminders for upcoming events. Next Friday, January 15th is Pyjamas Day. Similar to the Polar Express but for the entire school. Monday, the 18th is a Pro-D Day. No School for students that day.
Tuesday, January 19th is our Pizza Party. Students don`t need to bring a lunch that day. They will still need a snack.
